What anti-violence centres do
Specialist services provide listening, guidance and support to women experiencing violence. A pathway is developed with each person, respecting her timing and choices. The 1522 helpline can help locate a centre and explain access.
Recognising warning signs
Control of relationships or phones, isolation, threats, humiliation, financial restrictions and coercion can be signs of violence, even without physical injuries. You do not need to wait for things to get worse to speak to a specialist service.
If you are a colleague or manager
Listen without judgement or asking for proof. Do not force reporting or disclosure, confront the person perpetrating violence, or promise confidentiality you cannot guarantee. Offer service information, respect choices and facilitate applicable protection and support within your role. In an emergency call 112.
